Akrivia founder Rexhep Rexhepi is causing a stir at Baselworld. Here's a closer look.

Introduced at Baselworld 2018, the Chronomètre Contemporain is a departure for the young brand. Hand made in Akrivia’s Geneva workshop and boasts a classic design that is comparable to Roger Smith, F.P. Journe, and Philippe Dufour. Yea, they’re that good.

Akrivia Chronomètre Contemporain specifications and pricing

So much can be said of this watch, it’s probably one of my top five favorite pieces of Basel. Let’s start with the size, the Chronomètre Contemporain is just 38mm. Which is a shift from the brand’s larger contemporary pieces. The impressive enamel dials are available in a black or white with contrasting gold (on black dial) and blue (on white dial) markers. The dials are made at Emaill’Art which is the supplier of dials for the likes of Vacheron Constantin and Laurent Ferrier. The dials are stamped “Rexhep Rexhepi”.

The movement is Akrivia’s in house RR-01 caliber. Similar to other Akrivia movements, the design is symmetrical and absolutely gorgeous in person. The finishing is everything you’ve come to expect from Akrivia. With exquisite hand chamfering and beveling on all plates and bridges. Super sharp with a depth not found on pieces at this price point. This is some seriously special work.

Speaking of price, the Chronomètre Contemporain is priced at CHF 55,500 in rose gold and CHF 58,000 in platinum. Delivery is expected near the end of 2018.
